Abstract

Scrubs made with the addition of montmorillonite and lime peel powder has been carried out in order to determine the effect of the addition of these ingredients on the resulting scrub. The addition of montmorillonite is done to stabilize the scrub and maintain its shape. The addition of lime orange peel powder is to increase the antioxidant activity which is beneficial for the skin. The montmorillonite used is the result of the shiponing process of sodium bentonite and calcium bentonite. The lime peel powdere is obtained from l mashed and dried at lime peels at a temperature of 50ºC. Montmorillonite and lime peel powder were then added to the synthetic scrub at 70ºC. Variations of body scrubs were physically tested tincluding organoleptic, pH, emulsion type, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesision, crystallization volume. The sntioxidant test was carried out using the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhidrazyl) methods to determine the %inhibition. FTIR characterization was carried out to determine the functional groups and interaction of the scrub with addition of montmorillonite and lime peel powder. The physical result showed that the addition of montmorillonite and lime peel powder affected the dispersibility, adhesion and crystallization volume, but did not affect the type of emulsion and homogenity. The addition of montmorillonite and lime peel powder increased the inhibition percentage of the scrub. The characterization result of the scrub showed that the absorption was indentical and there was no new peak, it could be seen that the interactions that took place were in the form of physical interaction.
