Abstract

This research will focus on the discussion of Muhammad Thalib’s translation, Al-Qur’anul Karim Tarjamah Tafsiriyah, regarding verses on gender, in order to find an overview of Thalib's thoughts regarding issues on behalf of women in hiswork translation. In addition, this paper will also reveal the construction of women in his work, and reveal suspicion of interpretive orthodoxy in this work by using the standards of orthodoxy construction according to Handerson, namely Primacy, true transmission, Unity, catholicity and the middle way. Based on the results of the author's research, that in his translation of several gender verses, Muhammad Thalib tends to reduce the meaning of the verse. In addition, he also displays the translation of the verse by ignoring the context of the use of words in the target language (Indonesian). In the explanation of his translation, Thalib also tends to copy the explanation of the interpretation he refers to - either partially or completely - in his translation. In his work, women are reflected as a subordinate people. Such a form of translation can be misused as an argument to further confine women to male power, especially in carrying out their roles in both family or social life. Based on his translation, Thalib's work has an orthodox tendency in his interpretation of verses, especially verses on gender.
