Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the types of Islamic libraries that developed during the Abbasid dynasty. The benefit of this research is to make reference material for historical scholars regarding typology studies on the development of Islamic libraries during the Abbasid dynasty. It is hoped that with this research, an explanation of the development of Islamic libraries is able to provide scientific treasures for readers. This research was conducted using the historical research method with the type of research is a descriptive-analytic literature study and qualitative research. The data collection technique used is a reference. The data analysis technique in this research is technical history which consists of four stages, namely: heuristics (data collection), verification (source criticism), interpretation (interpretation), and historiography (writing history). Based on this research, four conclusions were obtained, namely: (1) Islamic libraries during the Abbasid dynasty were divided into three forms or types, namely public libraries, special libraries, and semi-public libraries. (2) Islamic libraries have roles and functions, including as a storage area for scientific literature, translation of manuscripts and books, compilation and distribution of books, a center for Islamic education, as well as a special attraction for the Muslim community to carry out the learning process, research, and forums. discussions between scientists, scholars', and other scholars. (3) The challenges of the Muslim community in developing Islamic libraries during the Abbasid dynasty included various kinds, including politics, personal or family problems, economic decline, external threats and scientific competition. (4) As for the innovations made by Muslims during the Abbasid dynasty for the development of Islamic Libraries, including innovations in Islamic libraries in the realm of education, Islamic libraries in the realm of science, such as the fields of Islamic Hadith, Tafsir, Fiqh, medical science. mathematics, Islamic philosophy. The next innovation is innovation for the welfare of Muslims, cultural development of Muslims, innovation scientists in disseminating work and research results.
