Abstract

These days, issues related to people with disabilities are still widely discussed in various perspectives, according to the field they are engaged in. This is because they have a unique side that is interesting to be explored continuously, as this research has a background to see disabilities from the perspective of hadith studies by examining their situation at the era of the Prophet Muhammad, scholars of hadiths with disabilities, and the understanding of hadiths with disabilities which reveal more respect to their existence. In addition, the world of disabilities is very broad.One of them is on social media, it is necessary to look at their depiction in it by looking at the current phenomenon. These are the problem statements in this research. First, how is the understanding of the existence of disabilities in the hadith perspective? Second, what is the form of representation of disabilities on social media, especially on the Instagram account @ thisable.id? Since the research method used is qualitative, namely by digging deeper into the object of research and applying the theory. While data collection techniques include literature review, interview, and documentation. The data analysis technique in this study is to test the validity of the data obtained, adjusted it to the theory taken, and analyzedthe relation to the understanding of disabilities in the hadith perspective and its representation in social media. The research recognizes the existence of people with disabilities in the hadith perspective did not only exist in the past, in the prophetic era of Muhammad SAW there was also the notion that people with disabilities are just the same as normal people, yet having limitations in handling certain activities. Thus, as Muslims, they need to be assisted, respected, and prioritized in any case because they need us and require their rights and obligations as people with disabilities without discrimination. Then, the understanding of the hadiths with disabilities (the study of understanding hadiths) can be described concisely in H.R. Bukhari no. 5210 and H.R. Ibn Majah no. 125 which explain that people with disabilities are an indifferent medium or a smelter of sins for them before Allah SWT, as well as a form of relief from torment in the hereafter and hints for people with disabilities to be strong, brave, fight for the struggle they are facing. Finally, the representation and response of the community regarding people with disabilities on social media, especially on Instagram @thisable.id, explains that they become more adaptive, their passion can be sufficiently accommodated, the society is more concerned and responsive to people with disabilities, and many more.
