Abstract

This thesis discusses the Preservation of Ancient Manuscripts in maintaining the National Cultural Heritage at the Dewantara Kirti Griya Tamansiswa Library Museum, Yogyakarta. This research aims to know at the preservation activities that are carried out both preventively and curatively, how the preservation preserves the nation's cultural heritage, and related standards and solutions given in ancient manuscript preservation activities. This research was conducted at the Dewantara Kirti Griya Tamansiswa Library Museum Yogyakarta that using a qualitative descriptive method. Furthermore, this research uses some techniques, such as observation data, interview, and documentation. Then to obtain valid data, the data analysis presented by the researcher used Miles and Huberman's theory with three steps, they are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing a conclusion. Then to test the validity of the data, researcher uses additional observations, increased persistence, triangulation of sources, triangulation of techniques, and triangulation of time. To presented in the form of sentences that are easy to implement. The results of this research can conclude that the preservation of ancient manuscripts at the Dewantara Kirti Griya Tamansiswa Museum Library in Yogyakarta are, the first is a preservation policy. A curative form of preservation (handling) carried out with a cover box and temperature and institutional arrangements. Meanwhile, the preventive form of preservation (prevention) is done by digitizing it, making duplication of manuscripts (hard copy), and manual cleaning. The second is how to preserve the nation's cultural heritage, namely by taking care of physical and the manuscript information, also spreading the value of the information to the general public. The third is a careful relationship that is involved in the conservation of human resources, funding sources, and facilities. The suggestions given by researcher related to this are increasing the number of resources in order to help the performance of each activity in the library, and adding existing facilities in the library to create comfort for librarians and librarians at the Dewantara Kirti Griya Tamansiswa Museum Library Yogyakarta.
