Abstract

Education in the 21st century is required to apply learning based on higher order thinking skills or what is known as Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). A preliminary study on RPP class V MI Muhammadiyah Kenteng Kulon Progo theme 3 sub-theme 1 shows that there are competency achievement indicators formulated by the teacher that are not relevant to HOTS. The operational verb (KKO) used by the teacher in the indicator belongs to the LOTS area. Another problem with the lesson plans is that the learning resources are less varied. The purpose of this study was to describe the competence of class V teachers of MI Muhammadiyah Kenteng Kulon Progo in planning thematic learning and implementing HOTS-based learning. This type of research is qualitative research with data collection techniques of observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were the principal of the madrasah, fifth grade teachers, Islamic education teachers, fifth grade students, fifth grade learning, lesson plans, and the profile of MI Muhammadiyah Kenteng Kulon Progo. The selection of subjects was carried out by using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Miles & Huberman model which consisted of data collection, data simplification, data display, and conclusion drawing. The validity of the data was carried out by triangulation of techniques and triangulation of sources. The results of this study are 1) the competence of class V teachers of MI Muhammadiyah Kenteng Kulon Progo in planning HOTS-based thematic learning is that there have been efforts to compile HOTS-based lesson plans, but there needs to be an increase, especially in the indicator component, learning objectives, learning resources, and learning methods. 2) The competence of class V teachers at MI Muhammadiyah Kenteng Kulon Progo in implementing HOTS-based learning is that they have integrated HOTS dimensions, but there is a need for improvement, especially in the dimensions of creative thinking and problem solving.
