Abstract

Communication between religious communities is a process of dialogue between religious communities to find common ground between these religions, so that an understanding will be created to live in harmony and peace. The ongoing social life between Muslim and Catholic communities needs to be examined and researched more deeply regarding the reality of religious harmony in communication between religious believers which is increasingly developing and influencing each other regarding interactions between religious adherents. Thus, the formulation of the problem in this thesis is how the views of the Muslim and Catholic communities towards religious differences, how the communication process for the Muslim and Catholic communities and how the communication barriers between the Muslim and Catholic communities in Kampung Pondok, Padang Barat sub-district. In this study the authors used a type of qualitative research that emphasizes depth in terms of data quality, not quantity, so the authors go down directly to research the field to obtain accurate and comprehensive data related to religious communication. Determination of the subject using Snawball sampling and data collection techniques using interview techniques, observation and documentation. The results of the first research show that the Catholic view of the Muslim community regarding religion is very high in tolerance, worship that respects each other and the attitude of a Muslim who is fanatical, some are very good. On the other hand, the view of Muslims towards Catholics is that they do not question and do not interfere in matters of worship if the Catholic community has a tolerant attitude and a sense of togetherness. Second, the communication process between Muslim and Catholic communities starts from dialogue with religious leaders who teach their respective followers the concept of tolerance, then religious and community leaders hold dialogue between religious communities, while in the social life of Muslim and Catholic communities, in communicating with each other, greetings are open. , empathy and mutual respect. They also create nonverbal messages such as touch, facial expressions, closeness. Models in the communication process are in the form of liner, cercular, transactional and religious models. The three obstacles that occur are attributable errors, stereotypes, social preconceptions, ethnosenstirme and value differences.
