Abstract

This research is motivated by the low interest in reading to students, management of literacy programs that are less effective, and literacy programs less creative and innovative. This study aims to explore the reasons to develop literacy, explains the implementation of strategic management of integrated literacy schools, and find out the improvement of student learning achievement after the implementation of strategic literacy management in SMA Negeri 1 Jetis- Bantul. This research is a qualitative research, with a qualitative descriptive approach. Informants in this study are vice chairman of Student Affairs, Literacy Coordinator, Librarian, and Students. Key informants are Principal and Head of Library. While secondary data sources are form of notes, transcripts, and documents. Data collection techniques with observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis in this study uses Miles and Huberman data analysis models with three data activities are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/ verification. Test the validity of the data are triangulation, extending participation / observation, and reference material. Research results at SMA Negeri 1 Jetis-Bantul show: 1) Reasons for successful development of the integrated literacy program are (a) the role of the Ganesha Library in the literacy program, (b) the literacy program policy in schools, (c) several literacy dimensions that optimize the success of the literacy program. 2) Implementation of strategic management in development of integral literacy schools is taken through three stages, which are (a) the stage of environmental observation to analyze internal and external factors to take opportunities and anticipate threats, (b) the stage of strategy formulation in the form of vision, mission and movement objectives literacy, (c) implementation of the strategy that is applying the formulated strategic planning, (d) the final stage of control and evaluation is evaluating all literacy activities with short, medium and long term reports. 3) Improvement of student achievement is shown from two things; (a) academic achievement, through the average value of MIPA 1 class X, first and second semester of knowledge there was an increase of 1.56% and the value of skills there was an increase of 1.67%. Likewise in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences class 2, 3, 4, and 5, the average value increased significantly. (b) non-academic achievements, showed a decrease from the number of participation in the race in 2018 with the number 16 and in 2019 decreased by the number 11. However, judging from the level of the branch competition in 2019 more increased at the quality of the provincial level by 7, in 2018 there were 3, and in 2017 only 1.
