Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the attitudes of art activists today, especially their religious attitudes which often get negative responses from others who see them. On the other hand, artists have their own perceptions of the attitudes and values of religiosity, and many of his works have not yet been appreciated. This study aims to analyze how the perceptions of art activists on attitudes and values of religiosity, appreciate and find out the value of religiosity that is reflected in art work among students of State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga. This study uses the Glock and Strak dimensional theory of religiosity to explore the perceptions of attitudes and values of religiosity of art activists and Nooryan Bahari's theory of art criticism to appreciate and analyze a work of art. This research is a qualitative research, using the method of observation, interviews, and documentation. This study used a purposive sampling technique, namely determining sampling by determining special characteristics, including students who are active in extracurricular arts at State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga; Sanggar Nuun Yogyakarta, Kalimasada, and the Gita Savana Student Choir (PSM). In this study, the works analyzed are in the form of collective performance arts. The results of the study were: first, students' perceptions of the attitudes and values of religiosity varied according to their life backgrounds. These perceptions describe that religious attitude; the results of religious-cultural dialogue; self-worship to Allah Swt; muamalah; a form of respect and love for Allah Swt; a reflection of a person's character; a reflection of religious tolerance; prayer and life principles. Second, works of art produced by State Islamic University Sunan Kalijaga students have an implicit religious value, both in meaning and in artistic expression. The values of religiosity that are reflected include, among others, the values of faith, sharia and morals. Thus, religiosity is not merely in the form of formal attitudes and behavior, but can be actualized in the form of artistic expression, religious appreciation with art appreciation, one of which is expressed in the process of art and works of art.
