Abstract

This research is based on the diversity of the students in the Islamic boarding schools, showing that it is necessary to instill the values of good multicultural education, so that conflicts do not occur. As the typology of pesantren in Indonesia develops, automatically there are differences in internalizing the values of multicultural education in the spirit of the santri. This study aims to determine the values of multicultural education, identify the process of internalizing multicultural educational values and find out the values of multicultural education that have been actualized in the Daar El-Istiqomah modern Islamic boarding school and the Bismillah Integrated Islamic boarding school. This research is a qualitative research, with a qualitative descriptive approach. Held in Daar El-istiqomah Modern Ponpes and Bismillah Integrated Ponpes. The informants in this study were the leaders of the Pesantren, Ustad, Mudabbir and students. Data collection techniques used include interviews, observation and documentation. The validity of the data used source triangulation and the method was then analyzed using the interactive model of Milles and Huberman which consisted of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that, first, the values of multicultural education contained in the modern Islamic boarding school Daar El-Istiqomah Serang-Banten and the Bismillah Serang-Banten Integrated Islamic Boarding School, include the value of tasammuh / tolerance, the value of democracy / freedom, the value of tawasuth, tawazun value and ta'adul value. Second, in the process of internalizing the values of multicultural education the two pesantren use three stages of multicultural knowing, multicultural feeling and multicultural action. The first stage is carried out with curricular and non-cricular activities which include learning activities in class, study of yellow books, khutbatul iftitah and khutbatul ars, the second stage is carried out with non-curricular activities by obeying discipline or role of boarding school, and extracurricular activities in pesantren, the third stage, is the peak stage, the students do it with full awareness and mature thought, so the form of this activity includes the activities of the boarder or mudabbir in providing guidance, direction, warning to the students for 24 hours and sending da'wah to the students into the community. Third, the multicultural education values that are actualized in the daily activities of students include the 3 S tradition, namely smiling, greetings and sungkem, mutual cooperation, queuing traditions, social service traditions, mutual reprimand traditions, marhabanan traditions, tahlilan traditions and grave pilgrimage traditions.
