Abstract

This research was motivated by rise of Indonesian radicalism, allegedly in the name of religion, in form of terrorism. It is known that in educational institutions, this radical understanding is obtained and studied. Based on the results of a research which indicates the existence of intolerance in educational institutions. Education institutions have criticized by educational analysis in Indonesia because they are considered to have conducted an educational method that is exclusive, dogmatic, and it does not influence moral aspects. This process was found in madrasas, Islamic schools and Islamic boarding schools. Related to one of ways survey which declared by Indonesia government is to develop education which moderate or called moderate Islamic education. Moderate Islamic education itself is classified as Islamic education that teaches kindness and compassion that Rahmattan lil alamin can add to Islamic values. The Islamic boarding school syafi'i akrom Pekalongan is one of the Islamic boarding schools which attempts to develop and implement moderate Islamic education. Even in Islamic boarding school syafi'i akrom, the moderate Islamic concept developed is ahlusunnah wal jama'ah nahdhlatul ulama, is considered capable of realizing moderate Islamic learning. The aim of this research is to determine the concept of moderate development of Islamic education in Islamic boarding school Syafi'i akrom Pekalongan, furthermore, how to implement moderate Islamic education in Islamic boarding school Syafi'i akrom Pekalongan, third, the significance of implementing moderate Islamic education in Islamic boarding schools is shown in Syafi‟i akrom Pekalongan. This research is a field research using a qualitative method. The technique of this research use interview, observation, and documentation techniques. Sources of data in this research include the head of Islamic boarding school, the head of Islamic Boarding School, the management of Madrasah Diniyah section, Priest and students of Islamic Boarding School syafi'i Akrom Pekalongan. The result of the research showed that first, the concept of developing moderate Islamic education in Syafi'i Akrom Islamic boarding schools follows the interpretation of ahlusunnah wal jama'ah nahdhlatul ulama, which presents the 3T principle are Tasamuh (Tolerance), Tawassuth (middle), Tawazun (balanced), all three of which must be owned at the boarding school by the board and students, in order to have a moderate attitude wherever it is implemented at the cottage in full learning. The second implementation of moderate Islamic education is carried out through a based on Islamic boarding school curriculum, through conceptual curriculum such as in learning of classroom and outside the classroom, and determining the teaching of moderate Islamic education. Third, based on the result of research, moderate Islamic education carried out in Islamic Boarding School Syafi'i Akrom Pekalongan can be said to be successful. Based on the character indicator which written by Abudin Nata explains that the character must be possessed in implementation of Islamic education in educational institution, from 10 indicators, the researcher analyzes there are eight indicators that have been carried out well so that the researcher said that moderate Islamic education is said to be successful with cooperation of all residents of Shafi'i Islamic Boarding School, Akrom Pekalongan.
