Abstract
Our media and society represented and stereotyped illogical beauty standards for women. Women were forced to follow the prevailing standards of beauty, even though every human being has various physical characteristics. This phenomenon found in the Imperfect: Career, Love and Scales movie. This movie carried a positive message so that woman are able to be more confident with their physical condition, and hopefully that illogical standards of beauty can be removed from our society. Along with this positive message, there were also signs in the movie that represented stereotypes of women’s beauty standards. This study aimed to find the stereotypical representation of beauty in the Imperfect: Career, Love and Scales movie. This study used Stuart Hall's representation theory. This study was qualitative, and the subject was the Imperfect: Career, Love and Scales movie. Data obtained by observation and documentation of scenes and dialogues in the Imperfect: Career, Love and Scales movie. The phenomenon in this study were analyzed using the semiotic analysis method of Roland Barthes, to found signs and classified them into denotation, connotation and myth. The results of this research found how the stereotypical representations of women’s beauty showed in Imperfect Film: Career, Love and Scales.
