Abstract
In his best known book, iTowards Understanding Islam/i, which has been translated into many different languages, Maududi states that unlike any other great religions Islam is not named either for its founder or after the community and nation in wjich it was born. Islam as a matter of fact is an attributive title. Islam in Arabic word and connotes isubmission, surrender,/i and iobedience/i. As a erligion, Islam stands for complete submission and obdience to Allah. Another literal meaning of the word Islam is a peace and this signifies that one can achieve real peace of body and of mind only through submission and obedience to Allah. Such a life of obedience brings peace of the heart and estabilishes real peace in the society at large. In addition to what Maududi has said one may present other peculiarities of Islam and its difference in comparison to other regreat religions. Unlike other grest religions, which triumphed slowly history of human beings for a couple of centuries. The Muslims played decisive roles when they were able to put Islam in its proper place in thier society. Later, the Muslim states had gradually diverged moreand more from the path traced out by Islamic Principles. The religious and secular parts of the society grew apart. The mosque and state were not one. Gradually, they became weak and finally were unable to face the challenge of western pagan power. The western pagan power rose from the dark ages as the Europeans were able to separate the state from the church towards the end of the middle ages. This is an accordance to the Bibical principle: Render to Caesar the things that are Caesars and to God, the things that are Gods. (Matt. 18:21). The western pagan power has been playing decisive roles in human history as government, generally speaking, have not recognized any church within their communities.b
