Abstract

This reseacrh aims to find out how the career decision-making process of Vocational School graduates who decide to study with gapyear status that are not linear in major. The research method used phenomenological qualitative and interview as the data collection technique. The data are analyzed using interactive analysis that divided to data reduction, data presentation, and data interpretation. The result of the research shows that there are many factors influence the informant's career decision-making process, such as internal factors: passion, determination, and the ability of collecting and analyzing information, external factors: family support, school environment, the closest environment, and unexpected factors such as: the college admission result, the state of job prospects after graduating from vocational school, and work risks. Each informant has different factors, so the process experienced by the informant is also different, some are smooth in the process of entering college and some are having obstacles. In addition, the informants' decision to study in a non-linear major/department make them have to adapt from the beginning to their new major/department. However, their determination to study makes them able to overcome the obstacles that exist during the career decision-making process, and they can carry out their decision to study well.
