Abstract
Students must be serious and responsible in order to be successful on academics. Task commitment is a tenacity and serious attitude to do the tasks are are useful for achieving learning goals. One of the things that determines task commitment is self-perception. The aims of this study is to determine the relationship between self-concept and task commitment in students in junior high school. The subjects were 102 students of SMP Muhammadiyah Pakem. Data were collected using a task commitment scale (11 items, Cornbach Alpha = 0.859) and a self-concept scale (20 items, Cornbach Alpha = 0.859). The results of the regression analysis show that self-concept has a positive and significant relationship with task commitment, this is evidenced by a significance value of 0.000 and a correlation coefficient of 0.480. The more higher the self-concept, the higher the task commitment.
