Abstract

This study aims to determine the resilience of mothers who have children with mental retardation and low socioeconomic background. The informants in this study were 3 people who were in the hamlet of Cijeunjing, Cibeunying, Majenang, Cilacap. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The method of collecting data in this study was through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation. Data analysis techniques used include data reduction, categorization, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification. The results of this study indicate that the resilience of mothers who have children with mental retardation were described as being able to calm the mind, control themselves from angry and sad emotions, have bright hopes in the future, have a strong will to rise up, be able to take lessons from every event, have a role in family and neighbors who are able to strengthen informants, involve Allah SWT in every condition and work hard. The factors that influence resilience are respecting self-achievement, going through adversity as a hard worker, being able to be sincere and patient. In addition, there is social support, believes in the power of Allah SWT, carries out obligatory and sunnah prayers, is able to present positive emotions after dhikr, perform ablution, pray and cooperate.
