Abstract

Bank Indonesia (BI) classifies the quality of credit, namely current, special mention, substandard, doubtful and loss. Several banks still recorded an increase in the ratio. As of May 2021, the Financial Sevices Authority (OJK) noted that gross non-performing loans (NPLs) were 3.35% a significant increase from December 2020, which was 3.06%. This ratio is also higher than the average monthly ratio in 2019 of 2.59%, so non performing loans need to be a concern. This study aims to examine and analyze internal and external factors that affect non-performing loans in Islamic banks (NPF) and conventional banks (NPL) in 2011-2020.The internal factors are the Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR), Loan to Deposit Ratio (LDR), Operating Income Operational Costs (BOPO), and Financing to Deposit Ratio (FDR). While the external factors are inflation and the BI Rate. Hypothesis testing is done with the Eviews tool, the analysis tevhnique uses panel data regression. The samples in this study were 4 conventional banks and 3 Islamic banks. The models used are Common Effect Model, Fixed Effect, and random Effect. The test carried out to select the best model are the Chow, Hausman and Langrage Multiper tests. The result of the panel data model test showed that the best model for this research in conventional banks is the Fixed Effect Model and the Islamic bank is the Common Effect Model. The results of the t-test showed that the variables that had a significant and positive sffect on NPL were CAR and the variables of Inflation, BI Rate, BOPO, and LDR had no significant effect. While the variable that has an influence on the NPF is BOPO.While the variables of inflation, BI Rate, CAR, and FDR do not have a significant effect on NPF.
