Abstract

The phenomenon of parenting stress can be experienced by parents, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, the burden on parents increases because apart from working, parents also have to accompany their children to study at home. Self-compassion is one of the factors that can minimize parenting stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-compassion and the parenting stress in motrher while assisting children during distance learning (PJJ). The approach in this study is to use a quantitative approach with data collection methods in the form of Self Compassion Scale and Parenting Stress Scale. The population in this study were mothers who provided learning assistance for children during distance learning in Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta. Based on the non-probability sampling method with purposive sampling technique, 102 subjects were obtained. The results of the research data analysis showed that it can be seen from the results of the correlation coefficient test that was formed at r = -0,610 (p < 0,05), which means that there is a relationship between self-compassion and parenting stress. Self-compassion made an effective contribution of 37.3% to parenting stress, while 67.3% was influenced by variables other than self-compassion that were not examined in this study.
