Abstract

This study compares and integrates the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and institutional theory to obtain the most appropriate model to predict the intensity and behavior of Islamic stock investors. Six models were compared to find the most suitable model for predicting the behavior of Islamic stock investors. The six models consist of TPB, institutional theory, integration of TPB and institutional theory, TPB with the addition of religiosity variable, institutional theory with the addition of religiosity variable, integration of TPB, and institutional theory with the addition of religiosity variable. This research model uses exogenous variables consisting of attitudes, subjective norms, behavioral control, coercive pressure, mimetic pressure, normative pressure and religiosity, and endogenous variables comprised of investment intentions and investor behavior. This study was conducted using a quantitative approach and primary data. Primary data was collected through questionnaires distributed to 220 respondents of Islamic stock investors. The data were analysed with Partial Least Square (PLS) as the analytical tool with the assistance of SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results of this study indicate that the TPB model with the addition of the religiosity variable is the most suitable model to predict the intensity and behavior of Islamic stock investors. The variables of attitude, subjective norms, behavioral control, normative pressure and religiosity are positively correlated with Islamic stock investors, while the variables of coercive pressure and mimetic pressure are not correlated with Islamic stock investors. The investment intensity variable is positively correlated with the behavior of Islamic stock investors.
