Abstract

Research on the use of rice husks as an additive for ceramic filter membranes in reducing the remazol red content of batik liquid waste has been carried out. This study aims to analyze the ability of phosphoric acid as an activator of rice husk charcoal, to correlate variations of rice husk activated carbon to the porosity test and to analyze the ability of rice husk activated carbon to decrease the concentration of remazol red dye in batik wastewater. The ceramic filter membrane used was made from clay and rice husk activated carbon which varied (0; 5; 10; 15; 20; 25 g). The results showed that phosphoric acid activator can cause metal to corrode and reduce the ash content of activated carbon with a lower value than the ash content of non-activated carbon. The porosity test showed that the more rice husk activated carbon added to the ceramic filter membrane, the greater the porosity of the ceramic filter membrane. The addition of rice husk activated carbon in the ceramic filter membrane tends to be able to reduce the concentration of remazol red dye by obtaining the optimum composition shown on the ceramic membrane with the addition of 15 g of rice husk activated carbon which can reduce the concentration of remazol red dye by 66.53% and COD value by 92.71%. Based on this research, it can be concluded that rice husk can be used as an additive for making ceramic filter membranes in reducing the remazol red content and the COD value of batik liquid waste.
