Abstract

This research is based on the problems that exist in the Islamic Vocational School Al-Futuhiyyah Kangean Islands Sumenep Madura. The problem that needs to be considered is the professionalism of the teacher. In practice, many teachers still teach with monotonous methods, namely lectures and discussions, even though there are many learning methods that can be used. Therefore, school principals need to make efforts to improve teacher professionalism at Al-Futuhiyyah Islamic Vocational School. With these problems, this study will focus on the principal's efforts to improve teacher professionalism at the Al-Futuhiyyah Islamic Vocational School, Kangean Islands, Sumenep Madura. The type of research used in this research is qualitative research. Data collection techniques in this study used interviews, documentation, and observation. Data analysis is inductive and the sampling technique used in this research is purposive sampling and snowball sampling. The results of this study show that: 1) The form of professionalism of teachers at Al-Futuhiyyah Islamic Vocational School in terms of the second part of article 171 paragraph (1) chapter XII concerning Educators and Education Personnel, namely the duties and responsibilities of teachers as follows; Teachers as professional educators educate, teach, guide, direct, train, assess, and evaluate students. In some aspects it is good, namely in the aspects of guiding, directing and training. Because in this aspect, teachers are able to provide good examples and examples to students, one of which is by applying discipline. Then the aspect of assessment and evaluation is also good because there is a clear and structured assessment and evaluation program. However, in the aspect of educating and teaching, it is still a weakness for teachers at Al-Futuhiyyah Islamic Vocational School because of the lack of teaching methods that are mastered and practiced during the learning process. 2) The efforts of the principal of the Al-Futuhiyyah Islamic Vocational School in improving teacher professionalism, namely: placing teachers or education personnel in the Organizational Structure and Work Procedures (SOTK), providing facilities for teachers to have educator certificates, participating in the Teacher Competency Test (UKG), conducting grouping of teachers according to their subject areas. always provide direction and socialization to teachers, conduct coordination and monthly meetings.
