Abstract
This research is motivated by the importance of literacy skills as the basis for developing language skills and critical thinking for early childhood. Early childhood is a golden age period where children's cognitive, social and emotional development takes place very rapidly. However, the low literacy rate in Indonesia, as indicated by UNESCO data, highlights the urgency of strengthening literacy from an early age. Teachers as facilitators in PAUD institutions have a strategic role in fostering children's literacy skills through appropriate and interesting methods. This study aims to examine the methods applied by teachers in fostering literacy skills in children aged 4-5 years at TK ABA Karangkajen Yogyakarta. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were the teachers of Class A at TK ABA Karangkajen. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. To ensure the validity of the data, the researcher conducted source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The collected data were analyzed through the stages of data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that teachers used various methods such as storytelling activities, letter block media and educational games, setting up reading corners in classrooms, and interactive question-and-answer sessions to engage children and stimulate their interest in learning. These teaching methods successfully fostered a love for listening to stories, curiosity toward literacy, and emotional involvement in learning activities. Thus, the application of appropriate teaching methods is expected to optimize the development of children's literacy skills from an early age.
