Abstract

The study is motivated by the awareness of religion for the prisoners who have been entered in the prisons. The places that are considered by the general public or society are places for those who are labeled as bad people, immoral and disturb the community. The Correctional Institution of Yogyakarta is trying with its best efforts in educating and fostering prisoners This study aims to determine the implementation of Islamic Religious for Muslim Prisoners in Prison Class II-A Yogyakarta and to find out the forms of religious awareness for Muslim prisoners in prison Class II-A Yogyakarta. The research method used in this study used a descriptive qualitative model approach as an analysis of field findings. Data collection techniques in this study were observations, interviews, and documentations. Data analysis techniques included data collection, data reduction, data presentation and data verification. The data validity test included source triangulation and technical triangulation. The results showed that, first, the implementation of Islamic religious education for Muslim prisoners at the Class II-A Correctional Institution of Yogyakarta referred to the schedule imposed by the Head of the Religious Development Division and its members. Second, religious awareness of Muslim prisoners at the Penitentiary Institution of Class II-A of Yogyakarta was manifested in several activities. These activities were a manifestation of the implications of the implementation of Islamic Religious Education in the prisons. These activities were shown by several prisoners in carrying out obligatory and Sunnah worship. In addition, prisoners participated in religious materials and activities arranged and scheduled by the prison's religious advisor. The implication of the implementation of Islamic Religious Education for prisoners at the Yogyakarta Class II-A Correctional Institution was as guidance in forming religious awareness for Muslim prisoners.
