Abstract

This research aims to determine the impact of economic decline on spirituality. This research is motivated by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred throughout the world which had an impact on social changes in the form of economic problems that burdened the society so that it caused suffering in the form of anxiety, fear and inner tensions in fulfilling their life needs in the form of clothing, food, drinking, school, and health which at any time can be threatened by virus transmission, while the prevention and control of Covid-19 can be completed by the economy. This research is a qualitative research using the method of observation, interview, and documentation. Sampling is done by purposive sampling technique by determining the criteria for society background, including tourism object manager, public figures, traders, and citizens. The impact analyzed in the research is the impact of economic decline on spirituality of society and the correlation toward Islamic sociology thought, Ali Shariati. The results of the research are: first, the impact of the economic decline can affect the spirituality of the Kediwung society, the dimension of spirituality is in the form of the meaning of life for the society which can be described by an attitude of gratitude, steadfastness, sincerity, prayer, and endeavor. The wisdoms found in the sources of the meaning of life are creativity value, appreciation value, attitude value and hope. Second, the correlation of Sharia thought begins with discussing the nature of human as two-dimensional beings of spirit and soul, who are equipped with the potential by God to determine their attitude to face Covid-19 and responsible for their choices. The next thought is in the form of religious awareness which can be used as a view of life in the form of ideology of Islam to face current social change. Those all can be done with redefining Islam through the appreciation of the meaning or interpretation of the pillars of Islam which are associated with social problems that occur today and implemented in behavior in life.
