Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of male teachers in early childhood education in Guluk-guluk District. The neglect of men in early childhood education is questionable, however it has been explained in Islamic teachings, both men and women have the same rights in any field, including in the realm of early childhood education and care. Therefore, the absence of men in early childhood education is a gender injustice or the influence of patriarchal culture that is said to greatly distinguish social roles based on gender. This research was qualitative method with data sources namely; principals, operators and homeroom teachers. The data of this study were conducted by means of interviews, observation and documentation. Data analysis was carried out in three (3) steps, namely data reduction, data display and verification to provide conclusions. The sociological facts of Guluk-Guluk people, who were religious and tended to be fanatical, affected the results of this study, in wich this research uncovered crucial facts relating to the power relations of women and men in early childhood education, namely: 1) patriarchal culture that is still very strong in Guluk-Guluk so that it determined the existence of women in early childhood education in Guluk-guluk; 2) The involvement of women in PAUD institutions is very supportive of children's development, while the involvement of men as administrators of administrative matters; 3) The absence of men has a negative impact on children's development, because children lack role models.; 4) The pattern of education that is not gender-equitable restricts children from imagining and developing their full potential outside of their gender.
