Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the role of a school principal to advance or improve school achievement both academic and non-academic. The existence of the principal who is still the executor of duties starting from the beginning of office, namely 2020 until now, as well as principals in other schools makes his attention to the institution he leads must be divided and the principal's limited time makes it interesting to study. Examined how principals optimize their leadership roles with all the limited time they have. This study, the researcher uses a qualitative research type. The methods of collecting the data are observation, interviews and documentation. Sources of data were obtained from school principals, vice principals and teachers. Data analysis uses data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing, while the data validity test uses data source triangulation. The results of this study, First, the type of leadership at SMAN 1 Arosbaya is included in the category of democratic leadership which is characterized by cooperation and policies made based on the results of deliberation. Second, the principal's strategy in an effort to improve school achievement is 1). Creating and planning school activity programs for a period of 1 year that includes long-term and short-term programs. 2). Improving teacher competence by conducting training activities, seminars, workshops, PKG and others. 3). Instilling a disciplined attitude and the application of rules in the school environment that must be followed by all school members. 4). Collaborating with parents and the surrounding community to support school program activities. 5). Conduct monitoring and evaluation at the end of each program activity. 6). Creating a conducive environment, implementing 5S and building a family work climate. The achievements obtained by the school with this strategy are; 1). In terms of academic achievement, the number of students who passed the 2021 SNPTKIN has increased. 2). From a non-academic perspective, the school received appreciation from the Head of the Bangkalan District Office for organizing an education expo, the enthusiasm and enthusiasm of educators and education staff in carrying out their duties and responsibilities increased and the performance of teachers was more disciplined and organized in carrying out their respective duties. Third, the supporting and inhibiting factors are: 1). Supporting factors among them; adequate professionalism of human resources, methods, materials and teaching materials in relevant learning activities, and a conducive school environment. 2). Inhibiting factors include; Discipline of students and teachers is still lacking and the means of supporting learning activities are still inadequate.
