Abstract

This research aims to find out information on cultural collections and the role of libraries in the Center for the Study and Development of Malay Culture (BKPBM) and to complete the researcher’s final project. The research used descriptive qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, in which the researcher uses data collection methods, non participant observations, semi structured interview and documentation. The informant determination technique used in this research is a purposive sampling technique. The data analysis technique used in this research uses Miles Huberman’s theory, namely there are three components of the analysis carried out by data reduction (data reduction), data presentation (data display), data drawing conclusions (data conclusions). In this research the validity of the data was tested using the credibility test, namely: extended observation, triangulation, references materials, and member checks, so that they become a unified information that supports each other. The results of this study indicate that the Center for the Study and Development of Malay Culture is one of the institutions that preserves Malay culture, especially in the city of Yogyakarta. At the Center for the Study and Development of Malay Culture, there are collections of Malay culture that have high historical value, there are two types of culture, namely tangible culture and intangible culture. Intangible culture is a type of culture that does not have a form, such as : traditional dance Tepak Sirih, and Malay music. And Tangible culture is a culture that has forms such as printed collections and historical items. Based on these results, it is expected to provide information on Malay culture to people who want to know about various Malay cultures and collections.
