Abstract

This research is based on the background that the presence of the globalization era brings several characteristics, such as: internationalization, liberalization, universalization, and the rapid development of communication technology. These characteristics have a positive impact on children's education, namely the existence of mega competition for educators in providing the best education for children. Al-Maghribi (1231-1286 M) and Muhammad Suwaid (1943-1999 M) were two important figures in children's education at different time periods. However, the limitations of this time period did not dampen the enthusiasm of educators in educating children. As a result, many famous scientists and scholars were born in that period. This study aims to describe and compare the thoughts of children's education according to Al-Maghribi and Muhammad Suwaid, as well as to provide an analysis related to the relevance of children's education in the era of globalization. This research is a library research with comparative analytical descriptive form. Data collection techniques through documentation of books and other scientific works that support. While the data analysis used content analysis with the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results of this study indicate: First, the thought of children's education according to Al-Maghribi is divided into six components: 1) In terms of the goals of children's education, Al-Maghribi views that the purpose of educating children is to make children as leaders who can benefit others, 2) Educators should have qualities, such as: forgiving, gentle, merciful, and pious, 3) Students should have characteristics, such as: devotion to parents and teachers, avoiding immoral acts, and using intellectual capital for good, 4) Effective methods of educating children, including: example, guidance, telling stories, habituation, motivation, and giving sanctions, 5) Children's education materials, including: faith, worship, morals, and sex education, 6) Children's educational environment, including: family, school, and community environment. Second, the thought of children's education according to Muhammad Suwaid is divided into six components: 1) The ultimate goal of children's education is to create a pious generation who is taqarrub to Allah, 2) Educators should have characteristics, such as: gentle, compassionate, patient, and always praying, 3) Students should have characteristics, such as: obedient to God, devoted to parents and teachers, noble character, and love of science, 4) Effective methods of educating children, including: exemplary, directing, fair, always praying, telling stories, gifts, punishments, and talqin, 5) Children's education materials, including: faith, worship, morals, social-society, feelings, physical and health, love of science, and sexuality, 6) Children's educational environment, including: family, school, and community environment. ix Third, children's education according to Al-Maghribi and Muhammad Suwaid has some similarities and differences. The similarity lies in the concept of educational goals, the character of educators, and students. While the difference lies in the methods and educational materials. In terms of methods, Al-Maghribi uses six methods in educating children, while Suwaid adds two more methods, namely giving gifts and talqin. In terms of material, Al-Maghribi emphasizes more on basic material, such as faith, worship, morals, and sex education, while Suwaid adds it with worldly material, such as social-society, emotion, physical and health, and love of science. Fourth, based on the thoughts on children's education presented by Al-Maghribi and Muhammad Suwaid, there are many things that are relevant if applied to adult children's education today, although some other things, such as the method of corporal punishment, are deemed inappropriate if applied because they can cause trauma and make people sick. Children are getting away from educators.
