Abstract

The current pandemic situation has an impact on all groups, including parents. The role of parents is increasing because they have to accompany children to learn, besides that education must continue so that children's development does not decline during the pandemic. However, there has been a drastic decrease in the number of PAUD registrants in Indonesia, from 6.69 million children to 4.8 million children because parents want face-to-face learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine the role of parents in improving the quality of children's development in the midst of a pandemic situation. And the obstacles faced by parents to improve the quality of children's development during the pandemic. This research method uses qualitative research with a descriptive analysis approach. As for the selection of research subjects, researchers used a purposive sampling technique, namely seven parents who have children aged 5-6 years in Kemuja Village. For data collection, researchers used interviews, observation and documentation. Meanwhile, for the analysis of research data through four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and data verification. The results showed that 1) the quality of early childhood development in Kemuja Village, Bangka Belitung based on the results of research from the seven children, there are four children who develop according to their age stage, while the other three had not developed optimally. 2) The role of parents to improve the quality of early childhood development, namely; be a good example to children and teach children about religious education, let children play, give children nutritious food, invite children to travel, invite children to read books and watch educational shows. As well as providing children with educational game tools, providing support or motivation for the talents of children, and providing opportunities for children to be creative. 3) Obstacles faced by parents to improve the quality of children's development include: giving children the freedom to play outside and interact with their friends, excessive use of gadgets and watching television and creating a safe and comfortable home environment for children.
