Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of skills possessed by 5th grade students in MI Nurul Ulum Bantul, namely critical thinking skills and communication skills of students. In the learning process, some students look discouraged and tend to be passive. When traced, some students feel discouraged in learning because the learning process itself looks boring, plus a very short learning process due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The effort made by teachers is to make the learning process fun and meaningful by using learning media with a drill and practice model. The research conducted by these researchers aims to identify 1) The critical thinking skills of 5th grade students MI Nurul Ulum in the pandemic before and after using learning media with drill and practice models, 2) Communication skills of 5th grade students MI Nurul Ulum in pandemic times before and after using learning media with drill and practice models, 3) Influence of learning media with drill and practice model on critical thinking skills of 5th grade students MI Nurul Ulum Bantul in pandemic times, and 4) Influence of learning media with drill and practice model on communication skills of 5th grade students MI Nurul Ulum Bantul in pandemic times. This type of research is quantitative research with research design using one group pretest-posttest. The population of this study was in the 5th grade at MI Nurul Ulum which amounted to 21 students. The research sample used is a saturated sample, where all populations are taken to be used as research samples. Data display techniques use problem tests, questionnaires, observations, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study show: 1) The pretest percentage score results of critical thinking variables by 53% and posttest by 73%. (2) The pretest percentage score of the communication skills variable is 69% and the posttest is 70%. (3) There is a significant influence between the learning media and the drill and practice model on students' critical thinking skills with a percentage of 42%, and (4) There is a significant influence between the learning media and the drill and practice model on students' communication skills with a percentage of 53%.
