Abstract

As an industry, the media has the advantage of being able to construct a picture of life based on its ideology and interests through news texts. Then in relation to power, the media can function as a tool to legitimize power or vice versa, function as a means of resistance to power. The polemic of President Joko Widodo's statement asking the public to actively criticize the government occurred because the statement was denied by several parties, saying that at this time it was difficult to convey criticism. CNN Indonesia is one of the online media that mostly reports narratives that are against the government. This research is included in the type of qualitative research with a descriptive format. The data analysis technique uses a framing analysis model by William A. Gamson and Andrew Mondigliani, where the central idea is formed through a framing device and a mutually reinforcing reasoning device. The results of this study are CNN Indonesia constructing the polemic of Jokowi Widodo's statement with a bad news model that depicts a negative image. It presents bad metaphors to describe government policies that are strengthened by data on the decline in Indonesia's democracy index.
