Abstract

This study aims to understand how the description of middle adults who experience empty nest syndrome to find strategies in overcoming empty nest syndrome. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The informants in this study were three women aged 54-58 years. Data collection methods are semistructured interviews and observation. Furthermore, data analysis through the process of data reduction, coding, categorization and drawing conclusions. The results of the study found several themes, namely the initial conditions for the occurrence of empty nest syndrome, emotions that arise during empty nest syndrome, and strategies in overcoming empty nest syndrome. The influencing factors are lack of family support and the shifting role of parents in parenting. According to informan, the meaning of empty nest syndrome is feeling of acceptance, sincerity, and resignation.
