Abstract

Social workers in orphanages have an important role in improving the quality of life of the residents of the orphanage so that they can live better in the community. The meaningfulness of work is one of the processes in finding something meaningful for individuals. Everyone experiences and discovers the meaningfulness of work diffrently. This study is aimed to find out the description of the meaningfulness of work for social workers in the Yatim Putri Islam Orphanage in Yogyakarta. Informants in this study amounted to 3 people who are social workers at the orphanage. Qualitative method is used with a phenomenological approach in this research. The data collection method is semistructured interviews and observations which are then processed using data reduction, coding, categorization, clustering, and concluding. The results of this study explain that eight theme describe the meaning of the work of social workers, such as; 1) Obtain positive values, 2) Change after becoming a social worker, 3) Shared vision, mission, and views with colleagues; 4) Maximize self-ability through his profession, 5) Useful for others through his profession, 6) Contribute to the progress of the orphanage, 7) Able to provide the best service for foster children, 8) Income as a life support and fulfillment of needs. These results indicate that the meaning of work on the three informants has been obtained in its entirety.
