Abstract

This research aims to determine the leadership role of the libraries in improving the library management function in the library of SMA N 1 Jetis. This is research a qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The data collection techniques using observation, interviews and dokumentation. The data analysis techniques using Miles and Huberman theory, that consist of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Validation data in test using source triangulation, technique triangulation, time triangulation and membercheck. The results of the study show that: 1) The leadership of the head librarian at the library of SMA N 1 Jetis is able to play his role as a leader in direction determination, change agent, spokesperson and coach. With the leader in the library can direct the work of members through work meetings, advance the library by creating new activity programs, expanding buildings, and adding infrastructure facilities. The head of the library conveys information through cooperation in internal and external environments and empowers the potential members by providing training through discussions and seminars. 2) The management function in the SMA N 1 Jetis is needed the role of the head of the library. One that can help library management can develop is to provide work briefings and create new activity programs so that library management can improved properly. However, there is still something that needs to be improved, namely the absence of policy in writing and the number of activities outside that the head of the library SMA N 1 Jetis can create guidelines or policies to make the work system good and can be implemented in accordance with the vision of the mission and objectives running clearly and purposefully in accordance with expectations and communicating related activity schedules so that the implementation of activities can run according to plan.
