Abstract

Covid-19 pandemic encourages the Indonesian government to issue the policy regarding online remote learning methods during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on the observation conducted by the researcher in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic Elementary School) of Ma'arif NU Padangjawa, the researcher found students who have problems in participating in learning activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. This causes a decrease in their learning motivation. Interpersonal communication between mother and children is important to increase learning motivation due to their psychological closeness. According to this problem, the researcher is encouraged to conduct a study regarding Interpersonal Communication between Mother and Children in Constructing Learning Motivation during the Covid-19 Pandemic in 5-6th grade Students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma’arif NU Padangjaya. The type of study used was qualitative descriptive. The subjects of the study were mothers and children in 5-6th grade students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Ma'arif NU Padangjawa, while the object of the study was interpersonal communication. The results of the study showed that interpersonal communication between mother and children increases during the covid-19 pandemic. Interpersonal communication in families with an emotional bond (cohesion) is at the cohesive level, adaptability of communication is at the flexible level, and the dimension of communication is positive. Moreover, promise in the form of giving gifts and additional facilities can increase students' learning motivation although it lasts relatively short and continuous communication is required to do.
