Abstract

The research is based on the direction of the shift in the fault plane having not been studied in most earthquakes occurring. Earthquakes are natural phenomena often occurring with 81% of occurrences in the zone where the plates meet. Indonesia as a meeting country between continental plates has a high level of seismicity, especially Java Island. There are still 3 active major fault lines on Java, one of which is the Opak fault passing through the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The mechanism modeling research focuses on the ISOLA-GUI software which uses the moment tensor analysis method and aims to determine the type of fault shift and the direction of the strike, dip and rake fault planes. The earthquake wave inversion process used the green function stage with a frequency range of 0.01 Hz to 0.05 Hz and resulted in a reduction variation value close to 1.00. The focus mechanism of the Yogyakarta earthquake on 3 events at 2009,2015 and 2017 resulted in modeling a strike slip fault and a reverse fault in the form of a beachball. The results of 3 focus mechanisms are in the Kebobutak formation, the Wonosari formation and the Nglangran formation with a shift towards the Southeast. The result of the moment tensor solution for each earthquake event has a range of values, which are Mrr = 1.7438 exp 11 to 14.5620 exp 13, Mtt = -28.5891 exp 13 to 29.0578 exp 11, Mff = -30.8015 exp 11 up to 14.0271 exp 13, Mrt = -52.4710 exp 11 to 27.4405 exp 11, Mrf = -2.6331 exp 13 to -2.8499 exp 11 and Mtf = -1.7299 exp 11 to 7.7102 experience 13.
