Abstract

This research was motivated by the launch of character education program until the establishment of personality and noble character as one of the objectives of national education. Pesantren educational institutions that have been famous in developing character education in the education system, to higher education institutions that established boarding schools (ma’had al jami’ah) as aform of supporting university education, especially in the formation of student character. The success of The State Islamic University of Malang in carrying out the management of ma’had al jami'ah as one of the technical implementing institutions in shaping the character environment ulul albab, until the establishment of ma'had al jami’ah as one of the main supporting factors of the formation of the character of ulul albab in the University. It is important to be reviewed as an evaluation and input material for ma’had al jami’ah in managing character formation management to be able to contribute importantly in achieving the vision, mission and objectives of the University. The purpose of this research is to describe how and wahat the management pattern and the reason why the MSAA strategic management pattern is considered important in the formation of the ulul albab chacarter. This research was conducted using descriptive qualitative research method. The researches carried out include data collection activities, data preparation and data analysis that make the theory as a guide in data analysis. The data validity check is done using two kinds of trianggulation, namely data source trianggulation and technical trianggulation. Data collection techniques used in this research are interview, observation and documentation techniques. Technical data analysis used is miles and huberman model consisting of three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The findings of this study are: 1) Strategic management pattern applied by Ma’had Sunan Ampel Al ‘Aly in forming the character of ulul albab is by formulating a strategy in the form of vision formation, mission and objectives by breaking down the vision and mission of the University as a technical implementation unit in realizing a scientific-religious Islamic higher education institution, as well as a form of strengthening the formation of ulul albab character. Implementation of strategies by implementing habituation patterns in forming the character of ulul albab. Assessment of strategies by monitoring and fostering mentoring students in daily, weekly, monthly and yearly programs. 2) Habituation pattern in the formation of ulul albab character is considered important in strategic management system because, to be able to change the character is to grow new habits by applying five stages of formation of mahasantri habit patterns. 3) The strategy of Ma'had Sunan Ampel Al ‘Aly in forming the character of ulul albab is to apply habituation pattern through five stages. The five stages are, the introduction stage, the understanding stage, the application stage, the habituation and repetition stage, the cultivation stage.
