Abstract

Research on activated carbon of coconut shell as an additive to ceramic filter membrane in reducing the concentration of Copper (Cu) in laboratory liquid waste has been carried out. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of activated carbon coconut shell activated using H3PO4 on the ceramic filter mem-brane on membrane porosity and its ability to reduce the concentration of Copper (Cu) in laboratory liquid waste. The filter membrane used is made of clay with the addition of coconut shell activated carbon with various variations, namely 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25%. The test carried out included the ash content test, the porosity test and Cu concentration test with a AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer). The results of the ash content test showed that H3PO4 activated carbon coconut shell had lower ash content, namely 0,68% compared to unacti-vated coconut shell with an ash content of 4,501%. The porosity test results showed that the more activated cabon coconut shell was added, the greater the porosity of the ceramic filter membrane. The optimum composition was obtained on the ce-ramic filter membrane with the addition of 15% coconut shell activated carbon with reduction in the concentration of Cu by 90,82%.
