Abstract

Research on the addition of coconut shell activated carbon (ACCS) as a composite on bentonite (Bentonite-Clay) earthenware membranes has been carried out. This study aims to determine the electrical potential and decrease COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and BOD (Biochemical Oxygen) of Ambon banana peel waste in ACCS/Bentonite-Clay MFC and Bentonite-Clay MFC. The parameters used are current, voltage, power density and reduction of COD and BOD of waste. MFC was carried out for 62 hours and parameter measurements were carried out every 2 hours. The results showed that the ACCS/Bentonite-Clay MFC obtained an average current of 2.12 mA, a voltage of 0.436 V and a power density of 357.1957 mW/m2 and a decrease in COD values of 24.44% and BOD of 27.29%. Overall, the addition of coconut shell activated carbon (ACCS) on bentonite pottery composite membranes affects the performance of MFC based on Ambon banana peel waste.
