Abstract

One of the most important things that must be considered by teachers and parents in educating children is choosing the right teaching method. There are many ways that can be used in educating children, one of which is the use of punishment. It is important for an educator to know the true meaning of punishment because the right punishment that is educational can be one way so that children do not repeat their behavior and become a better person. Unfortunately in the reality of life there are still many parents or teachers who do not understand the procedure for applying punishment to children based on the principles of Islamic education. This is marked by the many cases of violence against children that we often encounter in various news media. Based on these problems, researchers are interested in discussing punishment in Islamic education according to Abdullah Nashih Ulwan in the perspective of behaviorism, considering that Abdullah Nashih Ulwan is an Islamic figure who writes a lot about methods of child education in Islam and behaviorism as a learning theory that more or less discusses reword and punishment. This research is a type of qualitative research which is included in library research using a philosophical approach. Data collection techniques are carried out through documentation on primary data and other secondary data. While the data analysis technique in this study uses content analysis, which is a scientific technique to study and draw conclusions or a phenomenon by utilizing documents. The results of this study indicate that: first, punishment in Islamic education according to Abdullah Nashih Ulwan is a method or treatment that is given intentionally by educators to cause a deterrent effect on children so that children can become better individuals and do not repeat their actions a second time. Abdullah Nashih Ulwan put forward the concept of punishment on children according to Islamic education by referring to the way the Prophet Muhammad in educating children. Abdullah Nashih Uslwan explained the basic principles that must be held by educators when giving punishment to children, including educators must be gentle, pay attention to the child's character and give and give punishment in stages (from mild to harsh). Abdullah Nashih Ulwan also explained things that educators need to pay attention to when punishing children with beatings, including punishment is the last resort used. the vital part, in the first mistake the child may not be hit with a painful blow, may not hit the child when he is not yet ten years old, the punishment is carried out by the educator himself. Punishment is the last option used to correct a child's behavior, in other words, punishment is given so that the child becomes aware and does not repeat his mistakes. Second, from the perspective of behaviorism, the concept of punishment according to Abdullah Nashih Ulwan's thinking is generally in harmony, namely that giving punishment is the last resort in an effort to correct and correct children's mistakes.
