Abstract

The background of this research problem is taken from the development of culture and technology that has a positive or negative effect. These developments also affect moral education. The erosion of moral values is currently interesting to study. The importance of instilling good habits in human beings is the main goal of Islam. Content related to the comparison of Al-Ghazali and Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani, namely the consideration of similarities and differences in the purpose of moral education, namely to achieve the pleasure of Allah. With Al-Ghazali's inclination to philosophy, Al-Ghazali's thoughts on morality refer to the example of the Prophet as a pioneer of morality, which refers to the Qur'an and hadith. Meanwhile, Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani underlined the concept of moral education in moral education which is not fixed on cognitive morality education and refers to moral education intellectually and emotionally. This research is a type of qualitative research that is included in library research using a philosophical approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through documentation on other primary and secondary data. While the data analysis technique in this study uses Content Analysis or commonly called content analysis, which is a scientific technique to study and draw conclusions on a phenomenon by utilizing documents. The results show that: First, the concept of moral education according to Al-Ghazali is an effort towards morality to achieve human perfection (insan kamil) which leads to true happiness in the world and the hereafter which is based on the Qur'an and Hadith with the aim of getting closer ( taqarrub) to Allah swt. Second, moral education according to Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani is more directed to the formation of morals first by protecting the heart from disgraceful and sinful acts, because from a pure heart it will manifest commendable deeds. In an effort to form morals is to strengthen our sense of faith in Allah swt. Good morals must be based on faith, because the priest is not only kept in the heart, but must be applied in real deeds by doing good deeds and having noble character. Good morals can be formed through earnest practice, without sincerity and strong will it is not easy to change ingrained bad habits. Third, the concept of moral education of Al-Ghazali and Sheikh Nawawi Al-Bantani as a whole has many similarities including: the purpose of moral education which aims to achieve the pleasure of Allah, moral education material consisting of morals for Allah, morals for oneself and morals for others. .
