Abstract

This research is motivated by the difficulty of teachers introducing the concept of numbers and the selection of appropriate learning models for children with autism. The introduction of the concept of numbers should be with concrete or tangible objects, as a link that can help children become the anchoring of children thinking concretely towards abstract. The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of guided discovery learning models and the role of teachers on understanding the concept of numbers in children with autism. This type of research is quantitative experimentation. Stages in the research include: pre-experimentation with one group control pre-test and post-test design. The study population was 21 children. The study sampling used proposive sampling, so that a sample of 12 children was obtained. The data collection technique in this study uses observations, tests, questionnaires and documentation. Research data analysis uses descriptive analysis, simple linear regression analysis, multiple linear regression analysis and paired sample t test. The results showed that: 1) The data of the study score before treatment using the guided discovery learning model of the good category with a frequency of 2 with a percentage of 17%, the category is quite good with a frequency of 9 with a percentage of 75%, the category of less / not good frequency of 1 with a percentage of 8%. 2) Guided discovery learning model has an effect on understanding the concept of numbers in children with autism in kiddy autism center Jambi City by 98.9%. 3) The role of teachers affects the understanding of the concept of numbers in children with autism in kiddy autism center Jambi by 97.3%. 4) Guided discovery learning model (X1) and teacher role (X2) affect the understanding of the concept of numbers in children with autism in kiddy autism center Jambi City by 98.9%. 5) There are differences in understanding the concept of numbers in children with autism before and after using the guided discovery learning model at kiddy autism center jambi city
