Abstract

The background of this research is the number of cases of violence that occur to students, especially in elementary schools. Based on this, the steps taken by schools to minimize acts of violence and discrimination against students are by implementing child-friendly education. The aims of this study are (1) to describe the concept of child-friendly education oriented to character values for children of primary education age at SDN Ngupasan and SDN Pujokusuman 1 Yogyakarta City and 2) to analyze the impact of child-friendly education on the character of students at SDN Ngupasan and SDN Pujokusuman 1 Yogyakarta City. This research uses qualitative research methods with the type of field study research. Data collection in the study was carried out using interview techniques, non-participant observation and documentation. The subjects of this study consisted of principals, Child Friendly School (SRA) coordinators, teachers, students, education staff, and parents. The results show that: first, the concept of child-friendly education in SDN Ngupasan and SDN Pujokusuman 1 Yogyakarta City has their respective characteristics from the nature of child-friendly education, child-friendly education actors, application of child-friendly education, and the urgency of child-friendly education at SDN. Ngupasan and SDN Pujokusuman 1 Yogyakarta City. Second, the impact of child-friendly education at SDN Ngupasan, Yogyakarta City is oriented to character values, namely there are 31 character values that are instilled in students. Likewise, the impact of child-friendly education at SDN Pujokusuman 1 Yogyakarta City directly or indirectly through activities carried out repeatedly, there are 31 character values that are instilled in students. The character values that are instilled in students from the two schools have the same character values and some are different.
