Abstract

The development of the industry today requires companies to be able to create good quality products. A good quality product is a product that meets the specifications of the customer. However, if the company cannot produce a product that meets the specifications, then the product is a defective product. Defective products produced can cause losses for the company. Therefore, the number of defective products needs to be reduced in order to minimize losses. PT XYZ is a company engaged in the production of gloves. Based on data on defective products on the Golf X Gloves produced from March to May 2021, there are 33.29% defective products, while the maximum target standard for the company's defective products is 10%. Therefore, improvements are needed to reduce the number of defective products. The method that can be used to reduce the number of defective products is Six Sigma. Based on the implementation of Six Sigma with the DMAIC approach, it can be known the causes of defects in the Golf X Gloves product. Broken Defects (Folding Sewing), Non-Oval Finger Defects (Folding Sewing), Broken Defects (Thumb Cover Sewing), and Non-Oval Finger Defects (Thumb Cover Sewing) occurs because there are two causative factors, the human factor and the method factor. The improvement actions implemented to reduce the number of defects are changing the Fold Sewing process method when positioning the top material with the bottom material, changing the Fold Sewing process method when sewing the oval shape on the fingertips, using tweezers, and making sewing aid patterns. The improvement actions that have been implemented have succeeded in reducing the DPMO from 55,620 to 28,833, as well as increasing the Sigma Level from 3,093 sigma to 3,398 sigma.
