Abstract

The foundation of Sufi interpretation is the subjective experience of the interpreter. Talking about subjective experience, talking about an area that is quite complicated to reach and explain. As a result, reading in this area will always be interesting to study. This study tries to further examine the Sufistic Tafsir by Sahl al-Tustari concerning the concept of transcendentalism. There is very little transcendentalism in academic studies, especially in the study of Sufi interpretation, because it focuses more on aspects of philosophy and Sufism. Therefore, God is the axis of everything that happens in the universe, including humans themselves. There are two discussions of transcendence represented by philosophical studies, for example Mulla Sadra with the concept of alhikmah al-muta'aliyah, Ali Syaria'ti with the concept of Rausyan fikr, Iqbal with the concept of khudi (human existentialism) and finally in the study of Sufism represented by Ibn 'Arabi and al-Jilli with Insan Kamil, Suhrawardi with al-hikmah al-Isyraqiyah. Then this research wants to explore the transcendental construction in the interpretation of the Qur'an 'Azim as a form of Sufi experience in treading the spiritual path to God and what makes it different from other Sufi experiences. This research includes library research with the object of study is the Sufi interpretation of Sahl al-Tustari as the main source. This type of research is a study of a character and the method applied in this thesis research is the descriptive analysis method, which is to explain and analyze each verse used in understanding the verse related to humans as God's creatures. The approach used is Hans-George Gadamer's hermeneutics by giving a historical reading, literalist then giving rise to a new contextual meaning. The result found in this thesis research is that transcendence is an expression of consciousness that causes humans to act according to what God has ordered. In this context, the researcher understands that humans in the context of al-Tustari's interpretation have an important note, namely the first about the creation of Adam from Nur Muhammad, both humans have two souls, one leads to the enjoyment of the world, the second leads to the spiritual aspect and to achieve happiness in life. The third is the purpose of human life as God's vicegerent by remembering the names of God in order to gain spiritual power in the form of achieving sincerity in worshiping God so that he can meet (liqauhu) and witness Him (musayahada).
