Abstract

This thesis examines the phenomenon of internalizing religious values in the Xschool program held by the Xkwavers community for Hallyu-loving teenagers by appropriating and adapting elements of Korean culture with Islamic values and their implications for shifting the meaning of behavior of program participants who are domiciled in Yogyakarta and its surroundings. This research contributes to the study of educational psychology, Muslim youth and their relationship to pop culture. The social psychology approach with Abraham Maslow's theoretical concept of humanistic learning (hierarchy of needs) and the concept of Fogg behavior model are used in this study to understand how the shift in the meaning of Hallyu lovers’ behavior is influenced by the presence of the Xschool class from the Xkwavers community in changing their thought and behavior based on basic humanistic needs approach and behaviour model. This study uses qualitative methods with descriptive-analytic techniques and data collection techniques in the form of participatory observation in the Xschool class, interviews with Xschool Yogyakarta participants, and documentation of social media and teaching materials from the Xschool class. This study found that the internalization of religious values carried out by the Xschool class was able to cause significant behavioral changes to Hallyu lovers with a unique approach, including optimizing the presence of social media, K-Popers-style speakers, using various terms that are only understood by Korean culture lovers, using instruments and even Korean songs as a distraction, as well as producing Xkwaver's signature merchandise. In addition, this community not only uses doctrinal methods to provide religious learning but also provides various logical evidences and builds critical thinking. This study confirms that there are changes in cognitive, affective and conative behavior based on an understanding of religious values that are instilled in Xschool class participants from the Xkwavers community in order to reduce fanaticism towards Korean culture experienced by today's generation Z teenagers. A novelty obtained from this research is that the internalization of religious values through an emotional and rational approach was able to change the attitude of group fanaticism (obsessive enthusiasm) towards certain cultures.
