Abstract

This thesis is a reasearch that discusses the challenges and strategies of libraries in the era disrupstion 4.0 cased on the concept Diffusion of Innovations with a case study at the Library of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Science UGM Yogyakarta. The aims of this research are (1) to find the challenges faced by libraries; (2) to find why libraries need to have a strategy; (3) to find the strategy used by the library; and (4) to find out how the obstacles faced and the solutions made by the Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Yogyakarta in facing the challenges of the 4.0 disruption era. The theory used in this research is the Diffusion of Innovations Theory. The method used in this research is a qualitative research method with the type of case study research, while the data collection techniques carried out are observation, interviews and documentation techniques which are then analyzed by data reduction techniques, data display, and conclusions drawing. The results in this research indicate (1) The Library of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences UGM Yogyakarta in the era of disruption 4.0 has challenges which are explained by the concept of diffusion of innovations, namely innovation with the challenge of digitization library collection, Communication Channels with the challenge of human resources of information technology, and Time and a Social System with challenges yet to be seen; (2) The library of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences UGM Yogyakarta is important to have a strategy in facing the challenges of the 4.0 disruption era so that as an information provider it still exists and develops along with the development of IT and can improve human resources capabilities, and can always communicate services library to users; (3) the strategy of the Library of the Faculty of Socialc Sciences and Political Sciences UGM Yogyakarta which is explained in four elements, namely The Innovation, Communication Channels, Time, and Social System; (4) The Library of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Political Sciences UGM Yogyakarta in facing the challenges of the 4.0 disruption era experienced obstacles and had solutions to these obstacles, which included human resources of information technology, library services, and the website was often down.
