Abstract

In the news of the 2019 presidential election, it was widely discussed in media coverage, because it was a big democratic party for the Indonesian people. The mass media have an important role in the presidential election situation. The construction of the news that was built by the media also colored the quality of the campaign. Therefore, the mass media must have a political responsibility to maintain quality, impartiality and professionalism in the midst of the abundance of information on social media. Media activities are expected to adhere to the values of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar. So that the media presents news in a balanced and impartial manner. With this, the formulation of the problem in this thesis is how Republika.co.id and tirto.id construct news for the 2019 presidential election based on the analysis of Framing Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosichi, how is the independence of reporting on the 2019 presidential election in Republika.co.id and tirto.id in perspective Islamic communication ethics. In this study, the authors used descriptive qualitative research using a scalpel framing analysis by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki with four structures that show the framing of a medium, syntax, script, thematic and rhetorical. With data collection techniques, look for and study documentation related to relevant sources in the form of news on the presidential election at Republika.co.id and tirto.id as well as conducting studies with various literatures, as well as conducting interviews. The results of the first study, Republika.co.id constructed related news about the basic electoral capital of presidential and vice presidential candidates, various survey results on popularity, electability that crammed various citizen communication channels, as well as narratives of seeking power through persuasive actions that actually clashed citizens with different choices. In fact, politics whose big narrative is election news is filled with elitist issues. Meanwhile, the news construction built on tirto.id is a critique of elite maneuvers, the oligarchs behind the candidate pair, a crisis of confidence, rational campaign narratives, and campaigns with integrity. The results of the second research show that the media tirto.id presents news in a balanced manner, while the Republika.co.id media tends to side with the Jokowi-Ma'ruf candidate pair. Seen several sources who were presented from the two media.
