Abstract

This research is about the stages of communication relationship a teacher with mentally retarded child for doing practicing adjustment in sekolah Luar Biasa Pamardi Putra Yogyakarta. The problem of this research is how the stages of communication relationship which was built up by the teacher for doing approaching to the mentally retarded child for practice adjustment. The purpose of this research is to train adjustment mentally retarded child through the stages of communication relationship which was built up by the teacher. The type of this research used qualitative descriptive methods. The subject of this research is teacher and the object is the stages of communication relationship. The result of this research used 5 stages of communication relationship from Joseph A Devito which was built up by the teacher for doing approaching to the mentally retarded child for practice adjustment in the school. The 5 stages is contact, involvement, intimacy, deterioration, dissolution. The stages of communication relationship is very important for doing approaching to the mentally retarded child and adjustment in the school, so that mentally
