Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the role of the Caliph al-Hakam II’s library, so the science can develop well and rapidly, and it is known as the golden age of Islamic in Andalusia, Spanish. This researches’ benefits are two, such as theoritically and practically. Theoritically, this research is supposed to provide motivation to love sciences and scientific contribution to the study of the development of science. Whereas, practically, this research is supposed to give inspirations and lessons about the development of science in Islamic history’s perspective. Besides, this research is also supposed to develop the reader’s knowledge especially about history’s knowledge. This research uses historical research method with the type of literature study (library research), and this research is qualitative research. The collection technique of this research is documentation. The data analysis technique of this research is the technique of analysis of history’s content which has four steps, such as heuristics, verifications, interpretations, and historiographys. The results of this research can be concluded that the dynasty of umayyah II in Andalusia was founded by Abdurrahman ad-Dakhil (756-1031 c.e.). from their leadership, there was one of the most prominent periods, those are during the Hakam II in 961-976 c.e. Caliph al-Hakam II have the love of science, and one them are achieved by the Cordova's Library which the development was founded by Muhammad I. Then, it was larged by Abdurrahman III and then the development of the library was renewed when it was under control Hakam II, and it made the Cordova's library became the greatest and best. The role of the Caliph al-Hakam II’s Library is the development of libraries, the establishment of schools and universities, the change from private libraries to public libraries, the book translation movement, and presenting Muslim scholars in language and literature, philosophy, education and intellect, religion, and science.
